Yamasa Tokei Keiki Co., Ltd.(http://www.yamasa-tokei.co.jp/) was founded in 1942 and produced the first commercial pedometer in 1965 in Japan. The well-known among world by word for pedometer “Manpo-kei” (Manpo means 10,000 steps in Japanese) is our trademark.
“Walking” is recommended to keep good health such as preventing or improving lifestyle diseases and controlling body fat by used calories or improving exercise capacity. Walking takes root in the world as the exercise that everybody can do anytime, anywhere, any place easily.
For the market outside Japan, our products centering on Made-in-Japan pedometers are sold to local government organizations, schools and corporations for their healthcare programs as well as consumer electronics retailers and sports stores. Also our products are widely used in the area of medical research due to their accuracy and durability.
We keep providing high-quality “products” and “service” to the world improving and innovating our technology in order to enjoy healthy and comfortable life under the theme of “Enjoy walking”.

Our History

  • 1942

    Mr. Jiro Kato founded Yamasa Kouku Keiki Co., Ltd. in Toshima-ku, Tokyo to manufacture aircraft instruments.

  • 1952

    The above office was moved to Meguro-ku, Tokyo and manufactured mainly movements for clocks of industrial instruments.

  • 1957

    Yamasa Tokei Keiki Co., Ltd. was established and manufactured industrial instruments and special watches.

  • 1965

    Established new section of healthcare equipment.
    Developed and launched the first pedometer “Manpo Meter” under the slogan of “Healthcare with 10,000 steps/day”.

  • 1978

    New factory was built in Hasuda city, Saitama prefecture.
    Registered the trademark of “Manpo Meter”.

  • 1980

    Launched analog calorie consumption meter, “My Calorie”.

  • 1984

    Registered the trademark of “Manpokei”.

  • 1985

    Set up YAMAX brand.
    Registered the trademark of “Manpo”.

  • 1987

    Launched electronic pedometer.

  • 1988

    YAMAX Corporation was established.

  • 1989

    Opened Osaka sales office.

  • 1991

    International Trade and Industry Inspection Institute appointed us to a member of JIS
    formulation draft making committee for pedometers.

  • 1998

    Launched triaxial peak accelerometer.

  • 1999

    Launched game pedometer “First map creator (Tadataka Ino) today” for the opening of “Japan 21st Century Walking for Million People”.

  • 2001

    Launched watch type pedometer.

  • 2005

    Launched triaxial digital peak accelerometer.

  • 2006

    Launched Pocket Manpo (pedometer) - “Power Walker” (accelerometer sensor).
    Launched "IT Pedometer” in conjunction with the web site “Walking Pedometer Program”.

  • 2008

    Merged with affiliated company (export sector) - YAMAX Corporation.
    Launched pedometer using NFC technology.

  • 2009

    Launched Pocket Manpo (pedometer) - “Power Walker EX” as the product to meet “fitness guideline” issued by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

  • 2010

    Launched Pocket Manpo (pedometer) - “anemos” with a built-in USB connecting terminal.

  • 2011

    Launched activity monitor “My Calorie”.

  • 2013

    Launched watch type pedometer - “Dempa Manpo” equipped with radio clock.
    Launched activity monitor “My Calorie” equipped with pneumatic sensor.

  • 2014

    Launched “Active Manpo” that evaluates walking activity with the score.

  • 2016

    Established logistic center in Kuki city, Saitama prefecture.
    Moved head office to the newly-built office in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
